The book ‘Waiting for a Visa’ contains three speeches and three articles by the architect of the Constitution, Ambedkar. The work, which was published in English, was translated into Kannada by Sadashiva Marji.
The book describes the humiliation Ambedkar suffered due to caste. Six incidents where he himself was humiliated at various times are described. Ambedkar has expressed the suffering he experienced due to caste and untouchability, even though he did not have financial problems. Ironically, the exploited communities exploited him even more. Washermen did not agree to wash his clothes. Barbers did not wish to shave. It was difficult to travel in a bullock cart. It was considered a crime to drink water. It was not exploitation confined only to the Hindu caste. Ambedkar, who says that even Muslims marginalized the untouchables, suggests that there is a solution to this in Buddhism. He clearly states that Buddha was not a giver of salvation but a guide.
