The Weight of Angels – John Boyne

What if Oscar Wilde had never sued for libel? An extraordinary 'what-if' literary novel from John Boyne, the bestselling author of The Heart’s Invisible Furies!"

When the Marquis of Queensberry left his calling card at the Albemarle Club in February 1895 with the insult 'For Oscar Wilde, posing Somdomite', Wilde famously sued for libel—a fateful decision that led to his criminal prosecution, imprisonment, public disgrace, and early death in Paris at age forty-six.

In The Weight of Angels, John Boyne explores one of modern literature's greatest alternate history premises: what if Wilde had simply ignored the card? Instead of dying in penury, Wilde lives on to witness and influence the cataclysmic events of the early twentieth century. Sweeping, imaginative, and deeply moving, this novel gives the legendary Irish playwright an entirely different path through a changing world.
