As a student in Nileshwar, Niranjana was inspired by the oppressed farmers who rose up, clenched their fists, and created a new history. He kept the spark of that struggle in his heart and wrote 'Chirasmarane' in its light. To include the small truths that might have been left out in the 'Samyaak Darshana' provided by that novel, he also wrote the history of the farmers' struggle and several stories. By the time he wrote 'Mrutyunjaya', the farmers' struggle had appeared in all lands and in all ages, as a recurring epic.

In Niranjana's literature, the pain, sighs, anger, organization, and resistance of the farmer are recurring central themes. H.R. Naveen Kumar has selected and arranged stories representing various dimensions of this theme. He was also a companion of the farmers' movement; he documented the rare moments of the farmers' struggle in his writings and photographs. His extensive introduction provides an intimate acquaintance with Niranjana's farmer-centric writings; it reflects on their contemporary relevance.

This book offers a reading of Niranjana's writings in the context of the recent farmers' struggle that wrote a new history on the borders of Delhi. This is a timely publication during Niranjana's birth centenary year.
